Short Synopsis

A joint family reunites in their ancestral village for Diwali after years of differences. Hidden grudges, generational clashes, love, and betrayal resurface. Amid the celebration, a secret about the family’s land dispute and a shocking accident on Chhoti Diwali night changes everything. The festival of lights becomes the backdrop for truth, forgiveness, and rebirth.


Structure (2.5 hours)

·         Act 1 (0 – 50 min): Introduction of family, setting, festival vibes, subtle conflicts.

·         Act 2 (50 – 120 min): Rising tensions, love story, big revelation, accident on Chhoti Diwali → interval.

·         Act 3 (120 – 150 min): Aftermath, emotional confrontations, grand Diwali night, resolution, and emotional climax.


Act 1 (0 – 50 min) → Introduction, characters, setting, and conflicts. Then we’ll move into Act 2 and Act 3.

ACT 1 (0 – 50 min)

Theme: Family reunion during Diwali, suppressed emotions, hidden cracks.


Scene 1 – EXT. VILLAGE ROAD – DAY

Camera pans across a beautiful Gujarati/Rajasthani village decorated for Diwali. Diyas, rangoli, and laughter fill the air. Drums beat. Children run with crackers.

VO (Narrator):
“Har tyohar roshni se sajta hai… par kuch ghar aise hote hain jahan andhera andar hi basa hota hai.”


Scene 2 – EXT. ANCESTRAL HOUSE – DAY

A huge haveli, half lit, half in shadow. Relatives arrive with cars and luggage. Noise, hugs, and greetings.

·         RAVI (28) – Elder son, silent, corporate job in Mumbai.

·         MEERA (24) – Younger sister, full of life.

·         MOTHER (55) – Emotional, traditional.

·         FATHER (60) – Strict, egoistic.

·         UNCLE + AUNT – Opportunistic, greedy.

·         GRANDFATHER (80) – Patriarch, bedridden.


Scene 3 – INT. HOUSE – HALL – DAY

Relatives unpack. Women making sweets. Men discussing property papers. Ravi watches silently from a corner.

UNCLE (to father, slyly):
“Bhai saab, iss Diwali pe faisla karna hi padega. Zameen ka kya hoga?”

Father avoids the topic. Ravi’s jaw tightens.


Scene 4 – EXT. TERRACE – EVENING

Meera decorates terrace with diyas. Ravi helps reluctantly.

MEERA:
“Bhai… Diwali pe purani baatein bhool jaate hain. Tum bhi try karo.”

RAVI (bitter):
“Har andhera sirf diya se nahi mit-ta Meera.”


Scene 5 – EXT. BAZAAR – EVENING

Family goes shopping. Streets full of colors, firecrackers, lanterns.

·         Ravi notices a poor boy selling diyas.

·         He buys all diyas silently, gives him extra money.

·         Symbolism: Ravi still has kindness despite anger.


Scene 6 – INT. KITCHEN – NIGHT

Women gossip. Aunt whispers about Ravi leaving home years ago after fight with father.

AUNT:
“Bada beta itna door kyon rehta hai? Kuch toh raaz hai…”

Camera cuts to Ravi overhearing from doorway.


Scene 7 – EXT. COURTYARD – NIGHT (CHHOTI DIWALI PREP)

Family gathers for dinner. Crackers sound outside. Grandfather suddenly speaks after days of silence.

GRANDFATHER (weak voice):
“Is ghar ka deepak kab jaloge tum sab…?”

Everyone falls silent. Emotional beat. Father avoids eye contact with Ravi.


Scene 8 – INT. RAVI’S ROOM – NIGHT

Ravi alone, looking at an old photo of him and his father during a past Diwali. Tears well up. Flashback of heated fight years ago about land + business decisions.


Scene 9 – EXT. ROOFTOP – LATE NIGHT

Ravi smokes silently. Fireworks in sky. Meera joins him.

MEERA:
“Bhai… tyohar ka matlab hai roshni aur maafi. Shayad iss Diwali kuch badal jaye.”

RAVI (softly):
“Ya toh sab kuch jalega… ya sab kuch roshan hoga.”

Camera pans out → Interval of Act 1.

Scene 10 – EXT. TEMPLE – MORNING

Village temple decorated with flowers for Chhoti Diwali. Ravi goes to light a diya. A familiar voice stops him.

PRIYA (26) – Childhood friend, now a schoolteacher.
PRIYA (smiling):
“Abhi bhi diya ko aise hi jalaate ho jaise bachpan mein?”

RAVI (surprised):
“Tum… yahan?”

Unspoken chemistry. Background: kids laughing, temple bells ringing.


Scene 11 – EXT. SCHOOL – DAY

Priya shows Ravi her small school. Broken benches, kids studying under diya light.

PRIYA:
“Tyohar ke din bhi yeh bacche roshni ke intezaar mein hote hain.”

Ravi touched. Symbolism of Diya.


Scene 12 – INT. HALL – AFTERNOON

Family meeting. Uncle pressures father for land selling deal.

UNCLE:
“Diwali ke baad hi final papers sign karwa dete hain. Zyada soche bina faisla lena hoga.”

FATHER (strict):
“Yeh ghar sirf mera hai. Jo faisla hoga main karunga.”

Ravi clenches fists. Silent anger.


Scene 13 – EXT. COURTYARD – EVENING

Preparations for Chhoti Diwali. Rangoli, sweets, fireworks. Priya comes with kids to teach them safety.

PRIYA (playful to Ravi):
“Tumhare liye toh aaj bhi phuljhadi sabse dangerous hai.”

RAVI (smiling first time):
“Danger sabse zyada toh tum ho.”
(Their chemistry grows — a soft romantic beat.)


Scene 14 – INT. VERANDAH – NIGHT

Grandfather calls Ravi alone.

GRANDFATHER (weak):
“Beta… zameen ka asli waris tu hai. Tere pita ko yeh baat kabhi manzoor nahi thi.”

Ravi shocked. Truth revealed — land dispute is about him.


Scene 15 – EXT. STREETS – NIGHT (CHHOTI DIWALI CELEBRATION)

Huge celebration. Firecrackers, music. Family in courtyard. Ravi & Father’s eyes meet across crowd. Tension builds.

FATHER (angry, whisper to Ravi):
“Main zinda hoon, tab tak iss ghar mein tera koi haq nahi.”

RAVI (firm, emotional):
“Mujhe sirf haq nahi… ek ghar chahiye, jo roshni se bhara ho.”


Scene 16 – EXT. VILLAGE SQUARE – NIGHT (ACCIDENT)

Children running with crackers. Suddenly one cracker flies near stored hay. Fire erupts. Chaos.

·         Ravi saves Priya and kids.

·         Father trapped near fire.

·         Ravi runs in despite hate, saves father.

·         But in chaos, Grandfather’s bed (kept outside for air) catches fire.

GRANDFATHER (weak smile, dying words):
“Ravi… iss ghar ka diya tu hi hai…”

Grandfather dies. Silence. Screen fades.


Scene 17 – INT. HOUSE – LATE NIGHT

Family shocked. Father in guilt, Ravi silent. Priya consoles Meera. Aunt whispers that property will be chaos now.


Scene 18 – EXT. RIVER GHAT – NEXT MORNING

Grandfather’s funeral pyre. Ravi lights it. Father watches silently, regret in eyes. Priya stands with Ravi.


Scene 19 – EXT. TERRACE – EVENING (POST FUNERAL)

Ravi & Priya talking. Ravi broken.

RAVI:
“Har saal Diwali pe ghar sajta tha… is baar ghar hi jal gaya.”

PRIYA:
“Roshni jalti rahe toh andhera kabhi jeet nahi sakta. Tum roshni ho Ravi.”

Scene 20 – INT. HALL – SUBAH

Ghar sannaata. Dhoop ki halki khushboo. Maa mandir ke saamne baithi hai, aankhon mein paani.

MAA (prarthana):
“Bhagwan… iss ghar ka andhera khatam kar.”

Father door se sunta hai, pareshaan.


Scene 21 – EXT. ANGAN – SUBAH

Panditji aate hain, ek purana lakdi ka sandook laate hue.

PANDITJI:
“Babuji (Dadaji) ne Diwali se pehle yeh sandook rakha tha. Kaha tha sahi waqt par dena.”

Sab hairaan. Sandook khulta hai: purane kagaz, ek chhota diya, aur Dadaji ka khat.


Scene 22 – INT. BAITHAK – SUBAH

Ravi khat padhta hai, sab sunte hain.

RAVI (padhte hue):
Ghar ke diya ko main pehchanta hoon. Zameen ka hissa kabhi bikna nahin chahiye. Ek hissa gaon ke bacchon ke liye school ko, ek hissa parivaar ke ghar ke liye, aur ek hissa kheti ke liye rahe. Faisla milkar karna—warna roshni bikhar jaati hai.

Father ki aankhen bhar aati hain. Uncle bechain.


Scene 23 – INT. FATHER KA KAMRA – DOPAHAR

Uncle paper nikaal ke father par dabav banata hai.

UNCLE (tez):
“Advance le liya hai. Deal tootegi toh nuksaan hum sabka!”

FATHER (gusse ko daba kar):
“Deal tabhi hogi jab ghar ke sab log ‘haan’ kahenge.”

UNCLE (tana):
“Ravi aaya aur raja ban gaya?”

Father chup. Dil mein kasak.


Scene 24 – INT. MEERA KA ROOM – DOPAHAR

Meera, Priya aur Ravi. Meera phone dikhaati hai—accident wali raat ka short video: Uncle ke aadmi ne sookhe ghaas ke paas patakhe rakhe the.

MEERA:
“Main reels bana rahi thi… galti se yeh record ho gaya.”

PRIYA (sakht):
“Yeh lapaton ki wajah yahi thi.”

RAVI (thanda par nishchay se):
“Sach sabke saamne aayega.”


Scene 25 – EXT. PANCHAYAT CHABUTRA – SHAAM

Gaon ke buzurg, parivaar, Panditji. Video dikhaya jaata hai.

Buzurg 1:
“Patakhe ghaas ke paas? Badi laparwahi.”

UNCLE (hakka-bakka):
“Maine… main toh sirf—”

FATHER (logon ke saamne, dheere):
“Galti meri bhi hai. Ghar sambhala nahi. Aaj se na bikri ki baat hogi, na jhooth.”

Log daad dete hain. Uncle sharminda, seedha ho jata hai.


Scene 26 – INT. HALL – SHAAM (ANDHERA CHHA JATA HAI)

Zordaar baarish. Bijli chali jaati hai. Ghar andhere mein.

MAA (halki muskaan):
“Diwali bina bijli ke bhi hoti hai… diya se.”

Ravi sandook wala chhota diya jalaata hai. Ek se dusra, dusre se teesra—poora ghar jal utha soft roshni se.


Scene 27 – INT. MANDIR KONA – SHAAM

Sab milkar aarti shuru karte hain. Priya bacchon ke saath bhajan gaati hai. Father, Ravi ke paas aakar rukta hai.

FATHER (khaamoshi todte hue):
“Beta… maaf kar de. Main dara hua tha—khone se. Iss ghar ka diya tu hi hai.”

RAVI (aankhen nam):
“Main kabhi jaana hi nahi chahta tha.”

Father apni ghar ki chaabi aur kagad (property papers) Ravi ko de deta hai.

FATHER:
“Trust ke kagaz bana. Dadaji ke naam se school.”

Sab ro padte hain. Ghanti ki awaaz, soft score.


Scene 28 – EXT. ANGAN – RATLAMI RANGOLI KE SAATH – RATO

Bachche mitti ke diye le kar gali-gali roshni phaila rahe. Priya Ravi ke saath chalti hai.

PRIYA (muskurakar):
“Roshni bant-te ho, Ravi. Isi liye tumhara naam log yaad rakhenge.”

RAVI (halka mazaak):
“Naam nahi… kaam yaad rahe.”

Do pal ka pyaara, halka moment.


Scene 29 – INT. HALL – THODI DER BAAD

Uncle aage badhta hai.

UNCLE (pachtawa):
“Mujhse badi galti hui. Jo saza do, manzoor. Bas parivaar se alag mat karo.”

RAVI (seedha):
“Hum alag nahi karte. Lekin aage se faisle milkar. School pehle.”

Uncle sar jukata hai. Meera taali baja deti hai, sab hans padte hain.


Scene 30 – EXT. ZAMEEN KA KONA (SCHOOL WALI JAGAH) – AGLE DIN SUBAH

Foundation-stone ceremony. Pathar par likha: “Dadaji Smriti Vidyalaya”.

PANDITJI (teeka lagate hue):
“Gyaan ki roshni sabse badi.”

FATHER (public mein):
“Main apna hissa Trust ko deta hoon.”

RAVI (sign karta hai):
“Trustees: Parivaar + Gaon ke buzurg. Principal—Priya.”

PRIYA (hassi-samvedna):
“Maine kabhi socha nahi tha… par haan, zimmedaari qubool hai.”


Scene 31 – EXT. ANGAN – SHAAM (DIWALI KI RAAT)

Ghar saj gaya. Lanterns, phool, dhoop. Roka type chhota rasam—Maa Priya ko aashirvaad deti hai, Meera leg-pull karti hai.

MEERA (cheeky):
“Bhabhi ji, ghar ka budget aapke hawale!”

PRIYA (hans kar):
“Pehle school ka budget bacha lo.”

Sab ki hansi. Family photo—sab ek frame mein.


Scene 32 – EXT. CHHAT – RAAT KA CLIMAX

Silent fireworks (sky lanterns / phuljhari). Camera ghar se gaon tak fly. RAVI ek aakhri diya utha kar chhat ke kinare rakhta hai. Father uske saath.

FATHER (narmi se):
“Jahan roshni khatam ho, wahan tum shuru hona.”

RAVI (VO, halke sangeet ke saath):
Diya jalana asaan hai… par ghar banana mushkil. Humne aaj dono ki koshish ki hai.

Priya Ravi ka haath pakadti hai. Aasmaan mein ek bada firework phool ban kar khilta hai—cut to black.


EPILOGUE – EXT. SCHOOL – AGLI DIWALI – SUBAH

Bachche uniform mein, naya school—hansi, shor. Deewar par likha: “Jahan roshni ho, wahan hum.” Ravi aur Priya assembly dekh rahe, Father-Maa garv se.

VO (Narrator):
“Tyohar ki roshni sirf ghar nahi, dil bhi roshan karti hai. Jab parivaar sach ke saath khada ho… andhera khud pighal jaata hai.”
