🎬 Short Film Screenplay – “Chappal”
(Theme: Education / Girl Child)
Scene 1 – (Morning, Slum Area)
Camera zooms into a small hut. A young girl, Rani (10), is helping her mother wash utensils. She looks at children in uniform passing by with bags and lunch boxes.
Rani (softly, to herself):
“Kaash main bhi school ja pati…”
(Mother overhears, stops for a moment but stays silent. She looks helpless.)
Scene 2 – (Street Corner, Afternoon)
Rani sells flowers with her younger brother. A school girl of same age (Meera) comes to buy flowers.
Meera notices Rani’s torn slippers.
Meera:
“Tum school kyun nahi jaati?”
Rani (smiling sadly):
“School… paiso se milta hai na. Mere paas toh sirf yeh phool hain.”
(Meera looks disturbed, gives her extra money, runs away quietly.)
Scene 3 – (Home, Evening)
Rani’s father enters drunk, throws money on the floor.
Father:
“Kal se Rani ko kaam par bhejna… school wchool ke sapne chhod do.”
(Mother’s eyes fill with tears, but she remains quiet.)
Scene 4 – (Next Morning, Same Slum)
Suddenly, a group of school kids including Meera arrive with their teacher.
Teacher talks to Rani’s parents:
Teacher:
“Education ab sapna nahi, haq hai. Sarkari school free hai. Bas aapko haan kehna hoga.”
(Father ignores, but Mother gathers courage.)
Mother (firmly):
“Meri beti school jayegi!”
Scene 5 – (Climax, Slow Motion)
Rani wears a second-hand uniform given by the teacher. She walks barefoot to school, holding a slate. Other kids tease her. Suddenly, Meera runs up and puts her own slippers on Rani’s feet.
Camera close-up: Rani smiles with tears in eyes.
Last Shot – (Voice Over)
Visual of Rani entering school gate with confidence.
VO:
“Ek chhoti si haan… ek chhoti si madad… badal sakti hai ek zindagi.
Padhegi beti, to badhega desh.”
Screen fades to black with text:
“Right to Education is every child’s right.”
